Bonita Balkcom Guilford has a passion for making a difference. A native of Americus, Ga., she learned that community involvement was extremely rewarding and addictive.
As an advocate for organ donation, transplantation and kidney patients, she serves as a Trustee of the American Kidney Fund (AKF), a board member of the Southeastern Kidney Council, a former member of the Membership and Professional Standards Committee of UNOS/OPTN, an advocate for the Renal Support Network’s Wellness and Education Kidney Advocacy Network, a member of the speakers' bureau for Life Link of Georgia, and an advocate for the National Kidney Foundation's “People Like Us" program. She has also been a workshop speaker for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Emory University for the past two years.
She has served on boards and committees for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Networks 9 and 10’s Technical Expert Panel, the Margaret Hudson Program, Junior League of Los Angeles, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Parents Anonymous of California and Ohio, the League against Child Abuse, the Head Start Program and the Coalition of 100 Black Women.
Ms. Guilford is a member of the American Kidney Fund (AKF) Board of Trustees and serves on the Communications & Marketing and Kidney Disease Prevention, Education & Outreach Committees as well as the Atlanta Division Council.
A former retail executive, she has also been a speaker at the American Intercontinental University’s Lunch and Learn Program.

She is the divorced mother of three adult children, two daughters and a son: Asante SuJuan, Che and Donald.
