David Bobbitt joined American Kidney Fund in May 2008 as Vice President of Development. In this role he leads a comprehensive fundraising effort for one of America’s largest voluntary health charities.
During his career David has enjoyed raising significant gifts for significant causes. Highlights include building the largest non-profit hospice fundraising effort in America; beginning the first capital campaign for a major Washington DC educational non-profit resulting in a first-ever permanent home for the organization in a renovated historic DC mansion; and growing by more than 400 percent the fundraising of a mid-sized public university. His efforts have provided care for people with life limiting illness; scholarships for young scientists and aspiring public servants; and research funds to create an AIDS vaccine and to alleviate global climate change.
David is excited about his role at American Kidney Fund. “Our supporters all over America know that kidney disease can be devastating. But American Kidney Fund reaches out with compassion and care to those affected by kidney disease, their families and friends because of the generosity of our supporters.”
David believes that building relationships is the most important aspect of a development office.
He has made professional presentations to conferences of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and the National Council of University Research Administrators.
At the University of Virginia, David was a Jefferson Scholar and remains active in his alumni association.
David is well-known for his habit of wearing bowties. He has an extensive collection, including many gifts from friends all over the world.
In his spare time, David is a hospice volunteer, Atlantic Coast Conference football fan, and occasional world traveler (recent trips include Paris and southern India). He lives near Annapolis, Maryland.
