Last year we inaugurated two new special events in the Northeast region and continued our successful New York golf event for a second year. We would like to thank everyone who supported these events!

Steps that Count

On Saturday, October 6, 2007, the American Kidney Fund’s Northeast Regional Office held its first annual walkathon, Steps that Count, in Jersey City, New Jersey at Liberty State Park. WBLS-FM radio; Curtis McGriff of the 1986-87 season New York Giants Super Bowl championship team; and more than 100 walkers of all ages joined us to honor people living with kidney disease and to remember those they have lost to kidney disease. Steps that Count brought the community together for a fun-filled day, while raising over $40,000 for the patients we serve.

Second Annual New York Golf Classic

The American Kidney Fund's second annual New York Golf Classic, held on Aug. 6, 2007, was a great success and raised more than $87,000. Former AKF Board of Trustees member Frank Pelliccione was honored at the event, and the main event sponsor was Flushing Savings Bank. Joseph Simon, a partner at local law firm Cullen & Dykman, has agreed to serve as the honoree for the 2008 golf classic.

First Annual Spring Event

The American Kidney Fund’s First Annual Spring Event took place on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Friars Club in Manhattan. The event, a wine tasting, drew nearly 200 attendees and raised more than $58,000 for kidney patients.

Attendees socialized in the legendary Milton Berle Room, surrounded by photographs of famous Friars Club members and icons such as Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra. A live auction and raffle added to the excitement of the evening.

Honoree Liz Enright, LMSW, a longtime Board member of the American Kidney Fund, was thrilled by the support the event received. She gave a moving and memorable speech recognizing the dedication and support AKF has provided to kidney patients through the years. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended, as well as to the sponsors without whom this event would not have been possible:
