In 2007, the Southeast Regional Office of the American Kidney Fund produced two special events: a black-tie gala and our annual golf tournament. Both events were highly successful and raised funds for the patients we serve.
Black-tie Gala
AKF’s first black-tie gala in Atlanta, We’re Having a Ball: A Turquoise and Blue Affair, was held at the Piedmont Driving Club on Saturday, March 24, 2007. This event was a great success, with more than 200 people in attendance. Guests participated in a variety of sports challenges and a silent auction filled with sports memorabilia. Trustee Jerome Russell and his brother Michael gave a heartfelt speech about their experience and their involvement with AKF when they accepted the American Kidney Fund’s Circle of Champions award on behalf of their father, H.J. Russell & Company Founder and Chairman Herman J. Russell. Mr. Russell was honored for his support and service to AKF and for being an inspiration to the community. In addition, Circle of Champions award recipient Dr. Bill Cleveland, a prominent Atlanta nephrologist, spoke movingly of how AKF helps his patients. Dr. Cleveland was recognized for his outstanding service in the renal community.
Golf Tournament
On Monday, October 1, the American Kidney Fund's 18th Annual Turquoise Cup Golf Tournament was held in Atlanta at the Dunwoody Country Club. The sold-out event was a huge success, featuring gorgeous weather and a post-tournament dinner and silent auction. Special thanks to event chair and host, Mike Hartness, for his leadership and direction and for the many volunteers from SunTrust Bank. |
