AKF Hosts Kidney Action Day on the Hill
For the second consecutive year, the American Kidney Fund teamed up with the Congressional Kidney Caucus to host a kidney health screening event on Capitol Hill. This year’s event on March 1, 2012 featured AKF’s Pair Up campaign along with fun fitness activities. Members of the Congressional Kidney Caucus, including Vice-Chair Rep. AKF Hosts Pair Up Congressional Conversation On March 1, 2012
AKF hosted a Congressional Conversation to discuss the issue of chronic kidney disease and to introduce its new Pair Up campaign. Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA), Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL), Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), and Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) joined AKF President and CEO LaVarne A. Burton, AKF Advocates, Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and Pair Up Celebrity Health Champion Laila Ali to discuss the importance of kidney disease awareness, early detection and prevention.

AKF Advocates Kick Off National Kidney Month on Capitol Hill
On Wednesday, February 29 and Thursday, March 1, 2012, the American Kidney Fund hosted a group of 10 Advocates in Washington, D.C., to take part in its 3rd Annual Advocate Fly-In. Advocates participated in an advocacy training session, followed by meetings on Capitol Hill with their Congressional representatives to raise awareness of kidney disease and urge support for federal policies and legislation that can benefit kidney patients and their families.

Local Atlanta Officials Support Kidney Action Day
On Saturday, November 12, 2011 the American Kidney Fund hosted Kidney Action Day at Turner Field in Atlanta. Chairman John Eaves of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners delivered opening remarks urging attendees to take advantage of AKF’s free kidney health screenings. The Atlanta City Council issued a Proclamation declaring November 12, 2011 as Kidney Action Day in the City of Atlanta. Learn More

Congressional Kidney Caucus Leaders Participate In The Hope Affair
On October 25, 2011 the American Kidney Fund hosted its 3rd annual gala, The Hope Affair, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The Co-Chairs of the Congressional Kidney Caucus, Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Congressman Tom Marino (R-PA), delivered remarks recognizing the American Kidney Fund’s efforts to fight kidney disease, and demonstrated bipartisan support for increased kidney disease awareness and prevention. Houston Officials Support Kidney Action Day
State Representative Garnet Coleman, along with representatives from the City of Houston’s Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, joined the American Kidney Fund on October 16, 2011 at Kidney Action Day in Houston to raise awareness of kidney disease in Houston. Mayor of San Antonio Participates in Kidney Action Day
Mayor Julián Castro proclaimed October 1, 2011 to be Kidney Action Day in the City of San Antonio and joined the American Kidney Fund at the AT&T Center to raise awareness of kidney disease in the City of San Antonio. Learn More.

AKF Participates in Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Community Breakfast & Health Fair in D.C.
For the third consecutive year, the American Kidney Fund partnered with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Foundation for its 6th Annual Community Breakfast & Health Fair at So Others Might Eat (SOME) in Washington, D.C. on September 22, 2011. The American Kidney Fund provided free blood pressure and kidney health screenings to over 100 attendees.

D.C. Mayor and Congresswoman Support Kidney Action Day
On June 11, 2011 the American Kidney Fund hosted its Kidney Action Day at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton attended the event and presented remarks she entered into the Congressional Record. Mayor Vincent Gray proclaimed June 11 as Kidney Awareness Day in the District of Columbia. Learn More
