Have you been affected by your health insurer refusing to accept direct AKF HIPP grants? We want to hear from you.

For close to 20 years, we have been proud to help people with kidney failure stay insured. Our Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP) helps people who can’t afford their premiums for Medicare Part B, Medigap, Medicaid, commercial, COBRA, employer group health, and Marketplace Exchange plans. But some insurers no longer accept HIPP premium payments directly from the American Kidney Fund. This is part of a larger issue—insurance carriers nationwide are starting to refuse these payments, which are called “third party premium payments,” from nonprofits that help people who have a wide variety of chronic illnesses.

We are working to change this unacceptable situation—and we need your help! If your health insurance company has stopped, or has threatened to stop, taking third-party premium payments from AKF, please tell us how this has affected you. So that we may follow up with you, please include as many details as possible about your situation. For example, have you had to pay expensive check-cashing fees? Has it been difficult for you to submit your payment to the insurance company? Has your insurance been terminated? Have you had other problems? We want to hear from you.
