In 2017, Charity Navigator, the nation’s premiere charity evaluator, awarded the American Kidney Fund its “highest, 4-star” evaluation for sound fiscal management. This is the 16th consecutive time the American Kidney Fund has received the 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, placing AKF on Charity Navigator's list of the Top 10 charities to receive the most consecutive 4-Star ratings. AKF is the only health nonprofit included in Charity Navigator’s list of the top 10 charities with the most consecutive 4-star ratings.

"Less than 1% of the charities we rate have received at least 16 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that [the] American Kidney Fund outperforms most other charities in America," said Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator evaluates over 8,000 charities in the United States. “Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that [the] American Kidney Fund exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. This is our highest possible rating and indicates that your organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way.”

Charity Navigator evaluates over 9,000 charities in the United States with an objective rating system that examines a charity's financial health, accountability and transparency. Ratings show how efficiently Charity Navigator believes a charity will use donors’ support, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and the charity’s level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information.
