The American Kidney Fund is working on all fronts to make more kidney transplants possible. We provide financial assistance to dialysis and transplant patients; we work to raise awareness of organ donation; and we fight to protect the rights of living kidney donors. Last year, our financial assistance to patients made more than 1,000 kidney transplants possible. This Donate Life Month, we ask you to help us EMPOWER, FIGHT FOR and HONOR organ donors. We invite you to support the fight, share your voice, and learn about becoming an organ donor.
We must do everything we can to make more donor organs available. Every 10 minutes, someone is added to the nationwide organ transplant list, and each day, an average of 12 people die while waiting for a kidney. Make a contribution to help the American Kidney Fund educate more people about becoming organ donors.
Being a living kidney donor shouldn’t come with negative consequences, but the reality is that living donors are not currently eligible to take time off work under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and some living donors have been subject to discrimination by insurers. Critically needed legislation in Congress would extend insurance and FMLA protections to living donors. We need your help getting the Living Donor Protection Act through Congress in 2019. Please use your voice to help living donors.Support the Living Donor Protection Act
If you register as an organ donor, you can save eight lives after you die. And you may be able to donate a kidney to save someone’s life while you are still living—because people can live long, healthy lives with just one kidney.
