The American Kidney Fund's Vehicle Donation Program
Help kidney patients and raise awareness of kidney disease plus earn a tax deduction by donating your car, truck, boat or RV to the American Kidney Fund (AKF). AKF is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Vehicle donation is quick and easy! AKF works with Car Program, Inc., a reputable vehicle donation program that will pick up your used vehicle anywhere in the continental U.S. and Hawaii at your convenience and at no cost to you.
How Do I Donate My Vehicle?

What can I donate? Car Program, Inc., will accept most cars, trucks, vans, fleet vehicles, trailers, boats and RVs. Call toll free 1-800-936-4356 if you have questions about what you can donate.

Is my donation tax deductible? The American Kidney Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your vehicle donation will qualify as a tax deduction if your tax status allows. Please check with your tax advisor to determine your tax benefit.

How does my tax deduction work? The IRS allows you, the taxpayer, to claim a tax deduction of the value of your vehicle up to $500. Once the vehicle is sold, if the actual sale value exceeds $500, Car Program, Inc., will mail you a 1098-C form within 30 days of the sale. The sale is generally complete around 60 days after the vehicle donation, so the 1098-C would arrive no earlier than 90 days after you donate the vehicle.

How long will it take to get a tax receipt? Upon picking up your vehicle, the tower will leave with you a blank receipt on which you can claim a value up to $500.

What do I need to do to donate my vehicle? Please provide the vehicle title if available. If you do not have the title, tell Car Program, Inc., why and they can make arrangements in most instances.

My car hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it? Yes, Car Program, Inc., is able to accept most vehicles whether they run or not. However, the condition of your vehicle will affect the fair market value of your donation.

In what states can you pick up vehicles? Most vehicles can be picked up throughout the continental U.S. and Hawaii.

How will my car be picked up? Car Program, Inc., will arrange to have your vehicle towed at a scheduled time convenient to you.

How long will it take to pick up my car? Your car normally can be picked up within a few days. If you need your car picked up sooner, those arrangements can also be made.

What do I do with the license plate if I decide to donate? Remove any license plates (tags) before the vehicle is towed. Check with your local motor vehicle administration for more details.
