Message from the President and CEO
Dear Friend,
Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) gives us an opportunity to increase awareness of the health risks facing people of Hispanic background. Hispanics are at heightened risk for diabetes and high blood pressure– the leading causes of kidney disease. One in eight kidney failure patients in the United States is Hispanic. The American Kidney Fund has many resources to help prevent kidney disease. AKF provides kidney health information through our website, brochure series and toll-free Helpline - and all include information in both English and Spanish. AKF also offers free kidney health screenings in many locations across the country. Education and early detection are critical to AKF’s vision of a world without kidney disease. We are proud to join in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and hope you will join us in the fight against kidney disease.
To your health,
LaVarne A. Burton President and CEO
