HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 30) - On Sunday, Oct. 4, the American Kidney Fund will hold the 3rd Annual Steps That Count walkathon, a walk for kidney patients, in Pier A Park in Hoboken, New Jersey. Friends and supporters of the American Kidney Fund will complete a three-mile walk along the Hudson River, overlooking the Manhattan skyline, while raising funds to help kidney patients in need. The presenting sponsors are WBLS and The Star-Ledger.
“Our Steps That Count event in Hoboken is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of kidney disease, which affects more than 31 million Americans,” said LaVarne A. Burton, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Kidney Fund. “Maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is important in preventing not only kidney disease, but also its leading causes--diabetes and high blood pressure. This walk is a great reminder of the healthy living measures we can all include in our daily routine to reduce our risk for kidney disease.”
All proceeds of the walk will be used to support the programs of the American Kidney Fund. These programs include providing direct financial assistance to kidney patients in need, health education and prevention services. Last year, the American Kidney Fund provided more than $3.5 million in financial assistance to kidney patients in New Jersey.
Participants can raise money individually, as a team or as a virtual walker. Onsite registration is also available on October 4. For more information, visit www.kidneyfund.org or contact Jessica Pisano either by e-mail or at (516) 336-8531.
