Rockville, MD, April 28 —David R. Bobbitt has been named Managing Director of Development for the American Kidney Fund, the nation’s foremost source of treatment-related financial assistance to kidney patients.
As Managing Director of Development, Mr. Bobbitt will lead the American Kidney Fund’s comprehensive fundraising strategy, which supports the organization’s dual mission of providing financial assistance to kidney patients, and providing health education to people with, and at risk for, kidney disease. Last year, thanks to the generosity of contributors, the American Kidney Fund provided over $100 million in treatment-related grants to 68,000 dialysis patients nationwide.
“We are pleased to welcome David to the American Kidney Fund team. His breadth of experience and his commitment to our mission will translate into increased opportunities for AKF to serve people whose lives have been touched by kidney disease,” said LaVarne A. Burton, Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Bobbitt comes to the American Kidney Fund from the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, where he was Vice President, Institutional Advancement. His career has also included executive-level fundraising positions with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, and Capital Hospice. Mr. Bobbitt is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
“The American Kidney Fund succeeds because of a caring community of supporters all across our nation. I am delighted to join such a well-respected and effective organization,” said Mr. Bobbitt.
The American Kidney Fund’s programs and services include grants to help qualified dialysis patients with the cost of maintaining health insurance, as well as grants to help dialysis patients with treatment-related expenses not covered by insurance. The organization’s newest grant program provides dialysis patients assistance with their expenses for certain medications under Medicare Part D.
The American Kidney Fund provides health education for the public through its toll-free HelpLine (866-300-2900); a comprehensive kidney disease brochure series; continuing education opportunities for renal health professionals; public awareness campaigns; and the Minority Intervention and Kidney Education program, which forms community partnerships in cities with high rates of kidney disease to provide ongoing public education and free kidney screenings.
For its stewardship of the donated dollar, the American Kidney Fund has earned top ratings from Charity Navigator and the American Institute of Philanthropy. The American Kidney Fund participates in the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance’s Seal Program and is a member of the National Health Council.
