Four years ago I went to my doctor for what I thought was another urinary tract infection (I have had many in my lifetime). As it turned out I had more than a UTI, I had lots of protein and sugar in my urine. After much testing, I was diagnosed with diabetes and chronic kidney disease. I was already being treated for high blood pressure. I am sharing my story because I want people to know how devastating this disease can be, I was already in stage III CKD before I even knew that I had it! I try everyday to control my diabetes and blood pressure and it is a struggle; these diseases are now harder than ever to control because of my loss of kidney function. Everyone needs to find out if they are at risk. Early detection is the key to slowing the progress of kidney disease.
