Qualifing for a Safety Net Grant

In order to qualify for a Safety Net Grant from the American Kidney Fund:

• The patient must be a dialysis patient or a kidney transplant recipient. Transplant patients may be no more than five years post-transplant.
• The patient must not be covered for the requested expense by other program or insurance.  Financial assistance by the American Kidney Fund is considered "last resort" funding.
• Safety Net Grants are not provided for hospital bills, medical bills, physician’s services, dialysis treatment costs or transplantation surgery.  These expenses are usually covered by health insurance and/or governmental programs.
• The patient must demonstrate financial need on the patient application. Financial need will be assessed based on numerous factors including household income, reasonable expenses and liquid assets.
