Safety Net Program Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum grant AKF provides?

The maximum grant provided for treatment-specific expenses such as transportation costs to reach dialysis, medication co-payments, nutritional supplements and medications is $100.

How long will it take for my patient’s Safety Net application to be processed?

Our application processing time is generally in the range of 2-4 weeks.

My patient’s check has been issued but my patient has not received the check. Can a replacement check be issued?

We ask that you allow 6 weeks for the check to either be delivered or returned to AKF before requesting that a replacement check be issued.

Does AKF have a program that can assist kidney donors?

Yes, we can provide assistance with a onetime grant of up to $100 to assist with out-ofpocket expenses such as travel, lost wages and lodging.
