Research Topic: Nephrology, Genetics, and Epidemiology
The American Kidney Fund is pleased to announce that the 2007 American Kidney Fund Clinical Scientist in Nephrology/Amgen Fellowship has been awarded to Dr. Carmen A. Peralta of University of California, San Francisco. Through the Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Program, AKF encourages promising young nephrologists to pursue careers in academic medicine and improve the quality of care of renal patients. The AKF's Clinical Scientists receive advanced training in public health while they pursue prevention and outcomes research.
Dr. Peralta's research interests combine nephrology, genetics, and epidemiology. As a Fellow, her research will examine the roles that individual genetic ancestry and socioeconomic status play in chronic kidney disease, and how these factors impact the progression to end stage renal disease.
Dr. Peralta exemplifies the qualities that AKF seeks for its Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Fellowship.Dr. Peralta graduated Cum Laude from Rice University after moving to the United States from Barranquilla, Colombia. She attended medical school at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. As an internal medicine resident at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dr. Peralta received the Resident LeadershipAward from the National Hispanic Medical Association and the Martin Solomon Excellence in Research Award. Dr. Peralta completed her Masters of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research at the University of California, San Francisco. |
