Research Topic: Postprandial Hypocalcemia in Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in Early Chronic Kidney Disease
The American Kidney Fund is delighted to award the 2008 American Kidney Fund–AMGEN Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Fellowship to Dr. Tamara Isakova of Massachusetts General Hospital. Through the Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Program, AKF encourages promising young nephrologists to pursue careers in academic medicine and improve the quality of care of renal patients. AKF’s Clinical Scientists receive advanced training in public health while they pursue prevention and outcomes research.
Dr. Isakova has a strong interest in development of secondary hyperparathyroidism in CKD patients. Dr. Isakova’s research while a CSN Fellow of AKF is entitled “Postprandial Hypocalcemia in Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in Early Chronic Kidney Disease”. Dr. Isakova’s research aims to understand postprandial calcium and parathyroid metabolism and how to normalize these in early CKD.
Dr. Isakova exemplifies the qualities that AKF seeks for its Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Fellowship. In 2001, she graduated Sum Cum Laude from Downstate Medical College. In addition, Dr. Isakova was a 2007 Scholars in Clinical Science Program recipient from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Isakova will pursue further studies in epidemiology, biostatistics, genetics, pharmacology and new techniques of clinical research while enrolled in the Harvard School Scholars in Clinical Science Program. |
