Myra A. Kleinpeter, MD, MPH is Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana and serves Director of the Peritoneal Dialysis Program for Dialysis Clinics, Inc – New Orleans.  Formerly, she served as Director of the Ambulatory Clinics at the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (formerly known as Charity Hospital), Director of the Professional Education Core of the Tulane-Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health.

Dr. Kleinpeter has principal interest in continuing medical education, providing healthcare to underserved populations and chronic disease management.  Through the National Centers of Excellence collaborative programs, she has worked with several groups for curriculum development in women’s health, including the APGO “Women’s Health Care Competencies:  Sample Learning Objectives for Undergraduate Medical Education.”   Her research activities include cardiovascular disease risk factors in chronic kidney disease patients, health literacy assessment, the impact of modifying patient education programs on health outcomes and the effect of modified clinical visits on health outcomes and access to healthcare.  She has participated in the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems’ 2003 Physician Leadership Institute to develop future leaders in improving 1) access to care in safety net hospitals and community based programs, 2) clinical care and outcomes and 3) strategic planning for these organizations and affiliates. 

Dr. Kleinpeter received her BS from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with a major in Premedical Biology and a minor in Chemistry.  She received her Medical Doctorate and Masters in Public Health from Tulane University School of Medicine and School of Public Health, respectively and completed residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Nephrology and Hypertension at Tulane.

Dr. Kleinpeter is a member of the American Kidney Fund (AKF) Board of Trustees.  She currently serves as Chair of Medical Affairs and Chair of the Patient Services Committee and is also Co-Chair of the Minority Intervention & Kidney Education (MIKE) Committee.
