Weighing the Outcomes:
Ethical Issues in
Kidney Disease

Course Goal
Increase renal professionals’ ability to respond to daily ethical dilemmas by presenting a decision-making framework as well as strategies that health care teams may employ to improve patient outcomes.

Course Objectives
After completing the online course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe problem-solving techniques to use in ethical decision-making.
  • Identify barriers to ethical decision-making.
  • Describe best practices in ethical decision-making.
  • Define ethics terminology.
  • Recognize the role values and ethics plays in their daily practice.
  • Describe response to various common ethical dilemmas faced with ESRD patients.

Intended Audiences
This course is primarily designed for:

  • Nephrology nurses and technicians (3 contact hours)
  • Nephrology social workers (3 contact hours)

Accreditation
To receive educational credit, participants must complete an online evaluation form and pass the online assessment with a score of 80% or better. If you do not receive a minimum score of 80% or better, you are permitted 2 retake(s). After passing the assessment, you can print your certificate of completion.

Social Workers: This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (APPROVAL #886443948) for 3 continuing education contact hours.

Nurses and Technicians: This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

In order to receive your CNE certificate you must complete this course through the ANNA Online Library. 

Computer Requirements
You will need Adobe Flash Player (version 8 or later) installed to complete the modules.  Check now to determine if the correct version of Adobe Flash Player is installed on your computer. If you do not have Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer, you will need to download and install it. This will only take a few minutes and the software for this player is free.

Course Length
This course takes approximately 3 hours to complete. You can stop the course at any time and then resume when you desire.

 

Cost
This course is free for most professionals.  Nurses and technicians are required to pay a $15 administrative fee for ANNA credits.
