Malay B. Shah, M.D.

Dr. Malay Shah is an Associate Professor of Surgery and a multiorgan abdominal transplant surgeon at the University of Kentucky and is also the Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation. Dr. Shah is from Cincinnati and completed his medical education at the Medical College of Ohio. He subsequently completed a general surgery residency program at the Medical College of Georgia and abdominal transplant surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky in 2011 and has been a practicing abdominal transplant surgeon since then.

In addition to his clinical practice, he has been an outspoken advocate for patients with end stage organ failure. He has worked with various groups to help advocate for improvements in the organ donation system. His research interests have largely focused on disparities in organ donation. He also continues to advocate for health care access for underrepresented minorities and underserved patient populations. He is an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and has held several committee positions on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee as well as the Wellness Committee. He also serves as a member of the United Network for Organ Sharing Organ Procurement Organization committee.
