The Hope Affair - Lighting the Way
The Hope Affair, the American Kidney Fund’s annual national gala, is a celebration of the people who inspire us in the fight against kidney disease. The event brings together the renal community, policymakers, patients and advocates for an inspirational evening that raises funds to support the programs and services of the American Kidney Fund.
The theme of this year’s event was “Lighting the Way,” and this year’s honorees truly are shining lights in their communities:
NeShell Monroe - Hero of Hope
NeShell Monroe of Houston is a dialysis patient for more than 30 years and a longtime community advocate for kidney disease awareness.
Joseph A. Chazan, M.D., and Lucille M. Pono, RN, CNN - Caregivers of the Year
Joseph A. Chazan, M.D., and Lucille M. Pono, RN, CNN, of Providence, R.I., have worked together for four decades to provide care to dialysis patients.
Jonathan Rivera Gómez - 2014 Calendar Kids

Jonathan Rivera Gómez from Puerto Rico is this year's calendar cover artist winner.
Jonathan’s drawing is titled "La mano de Dios entregándome los riñones (The Hand of God Giving Me Kidneys)." The piece features a colorful seaside motif with the hands of God holding a smiling person with kidneys. Completing the scene are a cabin, an angel, crab and a leaping dolphin.
