American Kidney Fund Recognized as a Top Nonprofit Workplace in the United States
ROCKVILLE, Md. (May 2, 2025) — The American Kidney Fund (AKF) is honored to be chosen as one of the 2025 Best Nonprofits to Work For, earning eighth place in the medium employer category as selected by The NonProfit Times, one of the top business publications for nonprofit managers in the country, and the Best Companies Group, which works to help human resources teams understand, improve and showcase their work environment and company culture.
This is the fourth time in recent years that AKF has earned a spot on the list; nonprofit organizations are chosen to appear on the list based on how well leadership has excelled in creating a quality place to work. To be considered, AKF's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics were assessed, and a voluntary, anonymous survey was sent to AKF employees to gain insight into their workplace experiences.
"AKF would not be able to carry out the critical work it does on behalf of the 1 in 7 Americans living with kidney disease without our dedicated employees," said LaVarne A. Burton, AKF President and CEO. "Making sure AKF is a positive and healthy place to work is a top priority for us, and we are thankful our efforts have been recognized by The Nonprofit Times and Best Companies Group."
In order to support, grow and maintain a positive environment and high-performing work organization, AKF runs a Quality of Work Environment program. The goals of this program are to cultivate and put into place HR policies, systems, programs and practices that will appeal to and retain the best workforce to help realize AKF's mission of fighting kidney disease and helping people live healthier lives. AKF's core values are putting patients first, leading with integrity, building a culture of excellence, being a valued partner and making kidney disease a national priority.
The survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the nonprofit industry, benefiting the industry's economy, workforce and businesses. Nonprofits from across the United States participated in a two-part survey process to determine Best Nonprofits to Work For.
