Email Your Legislator: Support living donor tax credit for Michiganders (HB 4361)

Email your lawmakers

More than 23,000 Michiganders are living with end stage renal disease (ESRD), also known as kidney failure. Without treatment through dialysis or a kidney transplant, ESRD is fatal. Living organ donation can help save lives, but in Michigan, someone who chooses to donate their kidney to their parent, child or even a neighbor has limited protections and supports.

While the medical costs of a transplant are covered by insurance, leave from work, lodging or even transportation are not. House Bill 4361, by Rep. Felicia Brabec, will help living donors with these costs through a one-time, $5,000 living donor tax credit. This important legislation will support donors and reduce barriers to organ donation, thus helping save Michigan lives.

Will you contact your representative and ask them to support HB 4361, which provides a living donor tax credit for Michiganders?

A kidney transplant is a literal lifeline for patients suffering from kidney failure, offering the chance for a longer, healthier life. Support and protections for living organ donors can help us increase donations in Michigan and help Michiganders with kidney failure get back on their feet.

We appreciate your support and will keep you updated as the bill progresses. In the meantime, will you forward this to other kidney disease advocates in Michigan? We need to make sure that our community is aware of this important bill.

Thank you,
