The annual New York Golf Classic, hosted on Long Island, brings together business and community leaders to raise critical funds for AKF's programs and services. The day includes a fun, competitive day of golf and ends with an auction and dinner.

Meet our 2023 honorees

Michael Cavallaro - CEO, ARC Excess & Surplus

Michael Cavallaro

Michael Cavallaro joined ARC in 1992 and became an Officer and Partner at ARC Excess & Surplus in 2002. Today he is the Chief Executive Officer of the company – which has a focus in the brokering of Management & Professional Liability Insurance.  The company has recently written over $1 Billion in annual premium volume for the first time in its history.

His duties include managing the company as well as managing a book of business with 4 brokers and 8 administrative people that service accounts he is directly involved in producing. His focus is in dealing with relationships with brokers, insureds and insurance companies and other business partners and setting the direction for the company in terms of marketing and operations. He has been handling Management and Professional Liability in his 30 years at ARC and worked at AIG from 1985 to 1990 and then Gulf Insurance Company from 1990 to1992.  The singular emphasis on Management and Professional Liability with a heavy focus on D&O Insurance has allowed him to gain substantial experience and expertise in placing Management and Professional Liability Insurance and providing clients with valuable advice when making decisions regarding these lines of coverage. He has written various articles during his career including the following white papers: Directors and Officers Liability - What to Know, From a Broker's Perspective. A D&O Broker's Dilemma: Who Do We Represent? and Summary of the State of the Directors & Officers Insurance Marketplace. From 2001 through 2004, he was the co-chair to the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) D&O Liability and Insurance Issues Symposium, one of the most well-known and attended conferences regarding Directors and Officers Liability Insurance. From 2016 – 2017, he served as the Chairman of the Eastern Chapter of PLUS, and in 2018, won the PLUS Founders Award.

Michael Cavallaro graduated with magna cum laude honors from City College of New York (CCNY), where he received a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) and a minor in Mathematics.  Michael has received the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation granted by the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS). 

Chris Palmer - Managing Partner, Cullen and Dykman, LLP

Chris Palmer

Chris Palmer is the Managing Partner of Cullen and Dykman LLP, Chair of the Firm's Banking and Financial Services Practice and serves on the Firm's Executive Committee. Since becoming the Firm's Managing Partner in 2015, he has overseen the firm's growth into a regional powerhouse with 190 attorneys serving clients in seven locations throughout New York, New Jersey and Washington DC.  In his practice, Chris has broad experience securing loans with commercial retail and office buildings, multi-family apartment properties, and mixed-use facilities and has overseen the strong growth of the firm into a major regional presence.  Currently the largest firm on Long Island with seven offices in New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C., the Firm represents commercial banks and financial institutions in structuring and negotiating a wide array of financing transactions. In addition, the Firm's Banking and Financial Services Practice serves as general counsel for nearly 100 banks in the areas of lending, regulatory and compliance matters, bankruptcy and creditors' rights, loan workout and restructuring, lender liability, and land use issues involving environmental due diligence.

Mr. Palmer is a graduate of Chaminade High School, received his B.A. in Economics from Binghamton University and his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law. He is admitted to the Bar of New York, the U.S.  Eastern and Southern District Courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.  He is a member of numerous professional associations and serves as a board or committee member for many, including New York State's Judicial Foreclosure Task Force, The New York Bankers Association and the Nassau County Bar to name just a few. He also volunteers his time with local nonprofits like Chaminade High School, the Sacred Heart Academy, the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and the Cardinals' Committee for Archdiocesan Catholic Charities. In 2020, Chris joined the Board of Trustees at Catholic Charities of Long Island. Chris also finds time to share his vast experience with young people as an adjunct professor at St. John's University School of Law teaching the "Real Estate Workouts and Bankruptcy" course. Most importantly, Chris has three wonderful children – Christopher, Meghan and Kate – and lives in Garden City, New York.
