Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease, and many people suffer from both conditions. In recognition of National Diabetes Month, our November webinar will focus on preventing, and managing diabetic kidney disease. Sue-Ellen Anderson-Haynes, a nutrition educator from Joslin Diabetes Center, will talk to us about:

  • The role of our kidneys, and how chronic kidney disease and diabetes are connected
  • The risk factors, and ways of preventing diabetic kidney disease (DKD)
  • Lifestyle approaches, including nutrition therapy, for managing DKD

Sue-Ellen Anderson-Haynes, MS, RDN, LDN, CPT

Sue-Ellen was born in Jamaica and raised in Florida for most of her life. She is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Personal Trainer with interest and specialties in diabetes management, weight management and women’s health.

She earned her bachelor of science in food science and human nutrition, specializing in dietetics with a minor in health science education, at the University of Florida. She received her master of science in nutrition and wellness at Andrews University and completed her dietetic internship at Florida Hospital. Sue-Ellen is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with Massachusetts’s affiliation, Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition Practice Group, and Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group.  She is also a member of BOND (Boston Organization of Nutritionist and Dietitians of Color).

In the past she served on the Public Health Committee of the National Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts-Young Professional Network.  She was the workshop facilitator for Spelman 6th Annual Blue Print Conference for middle school girls in Roxbury.  She volunteered with the American Diabetes Association, assisted with fund raising and walking in the “Stop Diabetes” Campaign. She has facilitated small nutrition groups at local churches, fitness centers, and in the community in the surrounding Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts area. Currently she serves as the Health and Temperance Committee Director at the Cambridge SDA Church.

She has work experience in the areas of bariatric nutrition, diabetes management, wellness and disease prevention, and maternal and child nutrition.  Sue-Ellen works at Joslin Diabetes Center as a Nutrition Educator.  She has a passion for helping people meet their nutrition and fitness goals and maintaining them for the long-term.  Disease prevention and proper management are cornerstones in her career.

In her spare time, Sue-Ellen enjoys volunteering, traveling, and spending time with her husband and daughter, dancing, cooking, and reading.
