Kidney chat: Ask a social worker

Every person with kidney disease on dialysis is assigned a social worker. Social workers are highly educated and highly trained professionals whose job is to support you and help you through your journey with kidney disease.

Kathy Merritt, LCSW

Kathy Merritt holds her master’s degree in social work from West Virginia School of Social Work.  She has over 30 years of clinical experience working in the outpatient Hemodialysis setting.  Kathy has worked for Satellite Healthcare for 19 years and is currently the social work services manager for Satellite Healthcare.

She helps in training new social workers, is a subject matter expert for the center social workers and presents at Satellite’s new employee orientation regularly on boundaries and professionalism and dealing with challenging patients. She has also presented at the National Kidney Foundation, and at the Western BONENT seminar.  Kathy is past co-chair of the CNSW of Northern California.
